“Innovations and Investments: Role of Financial institutions in Development of CIS Economies”

        *  The world crisis has sharply unveiled an acute need for the CIS countries transition from mainly raw-material supplier development model to the new, innovative scenario.

     * Acknowledging this problem the Council of Head of States – CIS participants declared 2010 as the Year of Science and Innovation in the Confederation.

    * At the same time the European Commission proclaimed the initiative “Partnership for Modernization” for Russia.

     * The innovation processes of transforming the economies could be hardly imagined without the active participation of financial organizations, national and international institutions for development.

            The annual Vienna Economic Forum for CIS countries and Eastern Europe is an unique event for sharing experience between financial institutions of the European Union and CIS countries.

            The business program of the 4th Forum provides for discussion of issues on the role of financial organizations in ensuring innovative development of CIS economies and the European Union judging its valuable experience of EU members’ modernization.           

Keeping in mind the need for study of the current trends of World economy, experience of European Union countries, as well as demand for specific recommendations for entities engaged in innovation process, Financial and banking Council of CIS with the support of CIS Executive Committee is conducting the IVth Vienna Economic Forum for CIS countries and Eastern Europe “Innovations and Investments: Role of Financial institutions in Development of CIS Economies” from April 28 to May 1, 2010 in Vienna (Austria).

            The representatives of international financial organizations, executive and legislative bodies of the CIS countries, European Union, national financial institutions for development, large commercial banks, investment/venture funds, as well as the developers of innovations – potential and current recipients of investments.

            Within the framework of the Forum it is planned to conduct plenary meetings and round table conferences on the following agenda:

·                    Role of international financial organizations in providing innovative development.

·                    Collaboration of innovative program operators with financial institutions: problems and solutions.

·                    Cooperation of financial-banking institutions with national financial regulators, legislative and executive bodies in financing innovative projects.

·                    Innovation as a product of market economy. Criteria and standards of financial evaluation of innovative projects.

·                    Role of national banks for development and strategic banks of CIS countries in the innovative development.

·                    International Financial Centers – innovative elements of financial architecture.

·                    Financing cross-border innovation programs in CIS.

·                    Join collaboration of national financial structures of CIS and international development organizations on implementing innovation projects.

·                    Single Customs Zone (Russia-Kazakhstan-Belarus): new opportunities for integration with the European Union.

Taking into account the project on modernization of the Russian Federation developed by the European Commission, this conference is a relevant momentous event and can assist in strengthening economic integration between CIS countries and the European Union.

The annual ceremony of awarding the laureates of banking award “Platinum key” shall be held at the Forum. The award was constituted at the 2nd Vienna Forum of the heads of banking associations of a number of European states and CIS countries.
